M2 Technical Requirements
The M2 can be used with virtually any DV or HD video camera, and is designed to be adjustable if you have multiple cameras (for example, if you are DV migrating to HD). Your camera must meet the following requirements:
- Can fit a 72mm filter screwmount on the front of the camera (which can be used in conjunction with step-up/step-down rings). The M2 has a supplied 72mm achromat that screws to the front of your camera's lens. The M2 adapter rests on 15mm rods, and attaches to the achromat via a rubber gasket. If your lens is not a 72mm lens there are many simple inexpensive options available for step-up/ step-down rings.
- Is capable of focusing on something a few inches away (with or without a macro setting). The M2 comes with a high quality acromatic, which assists the camera with the close-up focus. If your camera has a longer minimum focus distance (such as the Sony Z1, FX1, Sony PD150 and PD170, and the DVX100 non-A and non-B) you may also need a spacer tube which is also inexpensive and easy to find. Redrock sells step rings. Spacer tubes can be purchased at adapterrings.com - the spacer tube you will need is here
- Has a 50mm distance between the camera base (where a baseplate would screw in) and the middle of the camera lens. If it is less than this, the Redrock shim kit can be easily used to increase the height of the camera or the adapter.
- Has a standard 1/4” or 3/8” mounting hole on the camera base for mounting to the 15mm rod support system and base plate.
