What's the difference between the M2 and the M2 Encore?

The M2 Encore has over 25 new features and enhancements. The most significant improvements are:

• 1/2 stop total light loss including the microX flip accessory
• All new optics for radically improved edge sharpness and vignetting elimination
• Collimating lens mount to easily and precisely set accurate lens distance marks and infinity focus
• Reengineered, larger optics for compatibility with all prosumer cameras including Sony EX cameras
• Rechargeable battery

If it has so many new features, why does the adapter have the same enclosure as my M2?

We felt it was important to have a simple and cost-effective upgrade for M2 customers. As a result we kept the same 'box' enclosure so the upgrade to the Encore is as simple as replacing the lid. Aside from the enclosure, the adapter is completely new and redesigned for optimal performance.

I own the M2 adapter.What upgrade options do I have for moving to the M2 Encore?

We have several upgrade options available. First, current M2 owners can upgrade the M2 to the M2 Encore with our upgrade kit. Second, current microX owners can upgrade to the microX Encore with special pricing.

Do I need to send in the M2 for the upgrade?

No. The upgrade process is simple and is designed to be installed by you without having to send it to us. We have upgrade videos available to show you how to do it at start.redrockmicro.com

Does the cinescreen II come with the M2 Encore?

Yes. All M2 Encore adapters and upgrade kits ship with the cinescreen II

How come I can't use my existing cinescreen II?

We made some great improvements in how the cinescreen is fitted inside the adapter to make sure it spins completely flat. The M2 cinescreen does not have the same hole pattern, so it would not work.

Can I use my existing HD achromat?

Yes, the current HD achromat is compatible with the M2 Encore, though you will not experience optimal image performance than if you upgraded to the microX Encore.

Is my current lens mount compatible with the M2 Encore?

All M2 lens mounts can be used with the M2 Encore except the Canon EOS and PL lens mounts. The M2 Encore's collimating lens flange also includes the ability to change lens mounts without opening the adapter. In order to provide this capability, we redesigned the Canon EOS and PL lens mounts to be compatible with this new approach. Customers with these lens mounts can upgrade them with new versions of these lens mounts available in our online store.

Do I need to upgrade my microX to the microX Encore?

You do not have to upgrade your microX to use the M2 Encore, but it is highly recommended. The microX Encore is designed as a complement to the M2 Encore. The microX Encore is required for compatibility with Sony EX series cameras.

I have a Sony EX camera. What do I need for best results with Redrock adapters?

For the Sony EX series cameras, we recommend the M2 Encore and microX Encore, both specifically designed with the EX series cameras in mind.
