The Canon EOS Cinema Cameras are a radical departure from the digital video cameras from even a few years ago. These powerful, large chip cameras with astounding latitude and color rendition deliver footage that would have costs millions just years ago, yet they are now commonplace. Despite or perhaps because of this intense focus on the image, Canon camera designs have sacrificed stable camera handling and comfort. These cameras are designed with the assumption you need to add accessories and rigs to realize their full potential.
ultraCage was first developed when Canon asked Redrock to design a system specifically for the C300 launch, to be used by professional filmmakers on their C300 video projects. A Cinema EOS camera by itself is a great camera. Installed in an ultraCage, it becomes the ultimate production camera system.
ultraCage itself delivers the protection, accessory mounting, and form-fitting design, while Redrock's other accessories such as powerPack, rails, follow focus, and mattebox, deliver a complete solution for everything you need in a camera package.
ultraCage is camera-specific: there are separate models for
C100, C300, and C500, as well as for other cameras. This way the cage hugs perfectly tight around YOUR camera's curves and functions. The vertical supports stretch from the ultraBase platform and wrap around the camera to meet the upper support clamp. At top and bottom are
15mm rod supports,
1/4"-20 mounting points along both sides, and 1/4"-20 and
3/8"-16 mounting holes on top and bottom. All buttons and functions are
fully accessible within ultraCage, so there's no reason to ever take the camera out.

Two great features of Canon EOS cameras are the accompanying touch-screen LCD monitor and camera handle with function control. These peripherals can be easily be used with the added benefits of ultraCage. Mount a microMount with a Redrock cold shoe clamp and put your Canon monitor wherever it needs to be. Install the optional handle mount on top of ultraCage to easily add your Canon handle. All the while, the camera's hot shoe is used to connect the camera to the chassis of the ultraCage, creating the most stable shooting situation possible.
Wrapped in mounting points, ultraCage opens up your rig to limitless peripheral arrangements. It also acts as a roll bar, should your camera be dropped or hit. And since it leaves the camera unobstructed, you can swap cards or batteries or attach cables in the middle of a shoot, all with the camera safe and secure within ultraCage.
ultraCage retains access to all buttons, doors and features while in the cage and is unobtrusive enough to stay on the camera even when shooting stills. ultraCage enhances the Canon EOS Camera's performance and is easy to use on set. It supports endless configuration options and never gets in the way.
Like all models of ultraCage, the cage system for Canon EOS is modular: make it is as small or large as your production calls for, in just minutes. And it works with all other Redrock gear, as well as accessories like the microFollowFocus, microRemote system, powerPack, and many more.
The backPack accessory for ultraCage delivers a convenient and extremely helpful rear plate on which to attach camera-top accessories. The backPack attaches to the ultraCage rear chassis to keep accessories clear of camera operation while still providing solid and stable mounting.
The powerPack delivers power regulation, conversion, monitoring, and distribution all in a compact and flexible package. It will power your Canon Cinema EOS camera as well as your accessories. The powerPack mounts snugly to ultraCage itself and it displays exactly how much life is left in your external battery.
19mm clamps can be added to ultraCage and used in single or double configuration. Often double-configuration is used in combination with the ultraCage rear chassis cage to create an incredibly solid full-sized support cage. Add a pair of Redrock 19mm carbon fiber rails and you are ready for anything.
If you've been holding off trying a cage system, we hear you. You've wanted a cage that isn't needlessly large, heavy, bulky and cumbersome. You've wanted one that's uniquely suited for your camera, that never gets in the way of camera function, no matter how your rig is configured. One that's a utilitarian extension of your camera's own design.
